Friday Night Lights

Craig and I decided to go see an old friend of ours, John Kirk this weekend. John took his first job coaching football this year as a defensive coordinator in Hubbard, Texas. The season is almost over and Craig and I have yet to attend a game, so we decided to go watch him coach on Friday. We began our 179 mile journey to Hubbard around noon. We tried to pack warm clothes because we knew it was supposed to be cold and we packed up the dogs too.

Molli rode in my lap the whole trip sleeping on my left hand. Mandi slept in the back seat of the truck.
We finally arrived to Hubbard around 3:30. We sat around and talked with John for a while, then he had to head back up to the field.

Their mascot is the jaguars. I was trying to get a picture of the jaguar that John painted earlier in the day in the middle of the field. It runs from 40 yard line to 40 yard line.

That is a little better picture of the jaguar. The game started at 7:30. Their team had one real superstar #4. I called him grasshopper. He was only 5'5'' and he looked so tiny out on the field, but oh-my-gosh was he fast! The whole game was back and forth. Craig was yelling at the refs like some of those crazy people do. I have to admit....the refs really weren't calling the game very fair. It was so cold outside. We were frozen! We bought some hot chocolate and coffee from the concession stands, but that only helped for about 5 minutes.

Those metal bleachers do not conduct any heat what-so-ever. My bum was frozen! The very first play of the game the jags scored, but then Axtell scored too. The game was very back and forth, but the jaguars managed to pull the game out in the end!

We met some really nice locals too. They are all big fans of Johnny K. too, so we are real happy for him. After the game he was so proud to have another win. Go Coach Kirk!
We had a lot of fun. High school football is a lot of fun to watch. Kinda makes me miss the good 'ol days (only a little though). Go Jags!!!
